We will redouble our efforts to support asylum seekers and refugees affected by new migration laws and hold the Government to account for commitments it made to get the laws past the Senate.
In the end, it came down to one vote because of an incredible show of people power.
Politicians heard our voices loud and clear - they now know the full extent of people's disgust and anger at the way the Government is treating asylum seekers and refugees.
This secretive Abbott Government is now subject to the watchful eyes of thousands of informed Australians and a sector already mobilising to defend refugees from these laws.
