Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a large estate and converted into a day hotel in 1826, the Museum transports visitors back to the Mount Vernon Hotel, a country escape for New Yorkers living in the crowded city at the southern tip of Manhattan.

The museum features rotating exhibits, craft and cooking workshops, children's educational programming, and more. It is owned and operated by The Colonial Dames of America.
