Michael Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, says the Navy has utilized lasers to intercept ballistic missiles and has increased its investment in hypersonic weapons to fulfill future mission requirements. The Navy recently tested hypersonic weaponry from its stealthy Zumwalt-class destroyers and incinerating incoming ballistic missiles by firing deck-mounted laser systems miles into the stratosphere.
