Description: To raise awareness of wildfire risk to Austin communities, a wildfire simulation exercise will be conducted using Austin Fire Department’s new 3D simulation table, providing a very realistic visualization of a wildfire event, including fire spread and evacuation timelines. This event is being conducted in preparation for a live Webinar that will be broadcast the following week to residents in the Jester neighborhood and a nationwide audience using Jester in the simulation. This is believed to be the first time that a 3D simulation Webinar will be used to motivate homeowners to reduce their wildfire exposure risk. Following the simulation, personnel will be on hand to provide on-camera interviews about the simulation, the importance of wildfire preparedness in Austin, and what can be done to reduce the risk of losing a home.
This video includes a fire simulation table (simtable) used to simulate multiple different well-known fires, including the famous Steiner Ranch fire in 2011.
