From the first days of the war, “Rotary Club “Kyiv” has been taking care of the communities of the Kyiv region.
Two neighboring administrative territories with which we have developed deep relations are Petrivska and Dymerska communities (occupied in 2022) of the Vyshhorod district. Their geographical location in the north-western direction of the Kyiv region at different historical intervals dictated the requirement to turn into a fort against the onslaught of foreign invaders.
These lands gave life to many famous countrymen, some of them received world recognition, such as Lazar Meyre, the head and one of the founders of the Hollywood film studio "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer".
From the end of February 2022, “Rotary Club “Kyiv” helped communities to overcome the challenges of wartime, strengthening them economically.
Drones guarding the northern direction, clothes and medicines for the defenders of local waste disposal facilities, means of heating - stoves, electric generators, pumps for pumping out water from Irpin spills in the houses of the civilian population, food for the population in the first days of de-occupation, clothes, a fire truck, hoses, a rubber boat, first-aid kits, defibrillators and electrocardiographs, wells for drinking water - our contribution to the fortification of the northwestern fort of Kyiv region.
Since October 2022, the territories of both communities have been systematically attacked by enemy missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles due to their geographical location and the presence of critical infrastructure facilities of national significance. A large percentage of lethal objects are destroyed by anti-aircraft defense forces on the approaches to Kyiv, most of them over the lands of the specified communities. Debris of the destroyed continues to take lives, harm the health of the population, destroy houses and infrastructure of settlements.
Meanwhile, the population of the community is constantly growing due to the arrival of IDPs from the eastern territories of the country. The Petrivska community continues to overcome the challenges of civilian needs of the population. One of these challenges is the safe education of children in community schools. To date, there are 5 secondary education institutions and 3 preschool educational institutions on the territory of the Petrivska Village Territorial Community. During 2022-2023, it was possible to equip the simplest shelters in most institutions. The arrangement (construction) of civil defense facilities in the Novi Petrivtsi Lyceum (617 students) and Novi Petrivtsi Gymnasium No. 2 remains an unresolved issue. The construction of the civil defense facility under the conditions of obtaining funding will provide an opportunity for children to begin their education within the walls of the Lyceum.
“Rotary Club “Kyiv”, together with the activists, administration of the Petrivska community and the director of the educational institution, conducted an inspection of the learning conditions at the Lyceum, inspected the basement of the left wing. Together with specialists, we determined the premises suitable for major repairs and arranging the shelter, received offers from contractors and chose the best one.
The cost of construction of the shelter by the contractor for the best offer is EUR 26,205, or USD 28,635, or UAH 1,040,967.
The implementation of the project will allow the students of the Lyceum to return to an offline mode of education from an online one, continue to obtain secondary education, and it will protect them from the threats of wartime. We will be glad to cooperate. Reports on our side are guaranteed.
