Our dams provide a safe, secure and cost-effective water supply, as well as help to mitigate floods. When rain fills a dam, the excess water is passed through the spillway into the creek or river it is built on.
A gated dam allows some control over the release of water. Seqwater manages three gated dams in South East Queensland – Wivenhoe Dam, Somerset Dam and North Pine Dam.
