Kolaani Hill or Kolani Mudi is a lovely hill station located near Melukavu in the Kottayam district of Kerala. It is known for its calm and serene environment and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills, valleys, and rubber plantations. At Kolani Hill, visitors can enjoy the fresh air, the greenery, and the tranquility of nature, it is a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate your senses.
To reach Kolaani Hills, take state highway SH-44 which connects Pampa to Neriyamangalam and passes through Melukavu, making it a convenient option. The road leading to the hill is a bit narrow and bumpy, so a two- wheeler vehicle would be the best choice.
Once you arrive, hike about 500 meters to reach the hilltop, and remember to carry water due to the rough and steep trail. It's worth noting that the hike may not be suitable for families with young children or senior citizens. But for those seeking adventure, the breathtaking view from the top is more than worth it.
The best time to visit Kolani Hill is mornings and evenings from October to February. Hiking during monsoon is risky due to slippery rocks and wet trails. Plan your visit accordingly to avoid any unnecessary risks. The nearest towns to Kolaani Hill are Erattupetta (22 km), Palai (26 km), and Thodupuzha (20 km). The nearest railway station is in Kottayam (53 km) and the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport (73 km).
