On his character and the relationship with Denzel's character Whip:

"Everything was right there on the page for me. I didn't really have to go to too many places. I just had a good picture of who this guy was. I think he and Denzel's character Whip genuinely love each other, I mean that's a good solid relationship."

On acting:

"I wish I could tell you that. I wish I could explain it. It's, uh, probably something that would take years on an analyst's sofa to get into. I just like it, it's the only thing that I do well. I'm terrible at golf, everything else. It fulfills a need in me to create and to interpret things that are on the page."

In regards to winning an Oscar:

"Yeah that would be great, yeah, but I'm not going to sit at home and hold my breath until it happens. I'll put it this way I'm very happy for the people that do get nominated and it's always a pleasure to see good work be rewarded."
