One of the most overlooked performance hacks for sports bikes, in this case the BMW S1000RR, is the changing sprocket / gearing ratio and fitting lighter components such as smaller pitch chains, alloy sprockets and titanium fittings.
In this video we took a look at what difference we could make to performance through this approach after getting technical advice from people much smarter than us at RaceDynamics.
Overall we saved 1.07kgs which reduced the mass of sprockets and the chain by more than 25 percent. We also experienced a significant increase in midrange acceleration without affecting top end speed too much.
Parts we fitted included the following:
RK Racing Chain - 520 pitch - (Gold version)
Vortex 45 tooth alloy rear sprocket
16 tooth steel front sprocket - (down 1 tooth from standard)
Titanium retaining nuts for the rear sprocket
Sprockets and chain were purchased from RaceDynamics here in Australia

The titanium nuts were purchased from Pro Bolt in Australia.
