অসমের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী হিমন্ত বিশ্বশর্মা সোমবার ঘোষণা করলেন, রাজ্য সরকারি কর্মচারীদের জন্যও এবার কার্যকর হচ্ছে কেন্দ্রের নতুন পেনশন স্কিম (UPS)। যেখানে সরকারের অবদান বাড়ানো হয়েছে ১০% থেকে ১৮.৫% পর্যন্ত। অর্থাৎ, কেন্দ্রীয় কর্মীদের মতো এখন রাজ্য কর্মীরাও পাবেন অতিরিক্ত পেনশন সুবিধা। কর্মীরা চাইলে পুরনো এনপিএসেও (NPS) থাকতে পারবেন। ইউপিএস বেছে নিলে স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে এনপিএসের জমা টাকা স্থানান্তরিত হবে নতুন অ্যাকাউন্টে। এই সিদ্ধান্তে OPS ও NPS নিয়ে চলা দীর্ঘ বিতর্কের অবসান ঘটবে বলে মত মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর।
