The term “beatboxing” is common today, but many years ago a cappella guru Deke Sharon ran into resistance when he tried to promote the use of vocal instrumental sounds. Later, as Sharon worked as a producer for “The Sing-Off” and the music director of the “Pitch Perfect” films, the idea became widespread in mainstream culture. Sharon explains how this new music vocabulary evolved and how he first got his works published.
