In this episode, I'm tackling the daunting task of winterizing my Flow Hive once again, this time with significant modifications. Join me as I address the ventilation challenges inherent in this hive during Canadian winters, a crucial factor impacting bee survival. Brace yourself, as I face numerous stings—these feisty bees aren't afraid to defend their hive!
Given past issues with starvation and moisture-related bee deaths, I've implemented specific modifications for this winter. Watch as I permanently install a ventilation hole atop the hive and employ a regular hive cover, opting for a double brood setup with 16 frames. These adjustments are aimed at aiding fellow beekeepers grappling with Flow Hives in colder northern climates during winter.
Keep in mind, this is an experimental approach—I'll evaluate its success come spring. If these modifications don't yield positive results, I might bid farewell to the Flow Hive.
