Further Information:
This is a easy walk that follows the Hopkins and then the Huxley Valleys found at the top Lake Ohau in New Zealand. It can be done as an over-nighter or as a base for further adventures up in the main divide of the southern alps. The Huxley forks huts are 8 (Main) and 2 (Rangers) bunk and the main hut has a log burner. I did this tramp in mid-winter and was plenty warm in hut with the fire.

The Hopkins valley is almost entirely 4WD accessible nearly all the way up to about Dodger Hut (3/4 of the way up the valley) while the Huxley is a side valley that is occasionally accessed by 4WD about a 8th of the way up the valley.
