A winter solstice hike up Bull Hill on Holcombe Moor above Bury in Greater Manchester. I had a few hours spare on my own, so I decided to bag another of Greater Manchester's Metropolitan Borough Tops. I couldn't set off until mid afternoon, so with it being winter solstice it was a race against time to make it up and down in the remaining daylight. As promised in the video, I have put details below of the local bagging list I am currently working through...
Greater Manchester Metropolitan Borough Tops...
1 - Oldham - Black Chew Head - 542m
2 - Rochdale - Blackstone Edge - 472m
3 - Bolton - Winter Hill - 448m (est, see notes)
4 - Bury - Bull Hill - 416m (est, see notes)
5 - Tameside - Wild Bank - 399m
6 - Stockport - Mellor Moor - 327m
7 - Wigan - Billinge North Top - 169m
8 - Salford - Newcombe Drive - 116m (est, see notes)
9 - Manchester - Heaton Park - 110m (see notes)
10 - Trafford - Bowdon Hill - 67m (est, see notes)
Winter Hill - The Metropolitan District Boundary line passes over Winter Hill around 500 metres east of the 456m summit.
Bull Hill - The Metropolitan District Boundary line passes over Bull Hill around 50 metres west of it's 418m summit.
Newcombe Drive - Nothing marks the highest point but it is thought to be around the junction with Anchor Lane.
Heaton Park - The highest point is actually in woodland west of The Temple's 108m summit, which previously claimed to be the highest point.
Bowdon Hill - Nothing marks the highest point but it is thought to be on Green Walk not far from the church. Very old OS maps show a 67m spot point there.
