Lights On the Hill - Slim Dusty Cover (with lyrics)

Описание: "Lights on the Hill" was written by Joy McKean for her husband – Australian Country Superstar, Slim Dusty. In 1973, it won the very first Golden Guitar – the top award at the prestigious Country Music Awards of Australia, held annually in the country town of Tamworth.

The song has since been covered by the likes of Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley & Adam Harvey, and Mental as Anything.

The lyrics describe a long-haul truckdriver driving at night with a heavy load. Blinded by lights coming over the hill, he hits a pole, veering off the road and realising his impending death.

A memorial which now bears the name of the song was erected in Gatton, Queensland in remembrance of heavy vehicle drivers who have lost their lives on the road. It is located within Lake Apex Park on the outskirts of the town.

Before Slim died in 2003, he and his wife Joy agreed to the use of the name, “Lights on the Hill”, and to be patrons of the memorial. Sadly, just this month – in May 2023 – Joy joined Slim once again, passing away peacefully at the age of 93.
