Palawan Rep. Pepito Alvarez proposed redirecting the government's annual P255-billion flood control budget for several years to provide potable water to thousands of underserved communities across the country.

Speaking on #TheSpokes, Alvarez said the funds could be used to bring clean drinking water to the nation's 42,000 barangays, particularly those outside Metro Manila that remain without reliable water access. He pointed to his experience in Palawan, where he said most barangays, including island communities, have been provided with potable water through local initiatives.

Alvarez also disclosed that his district has three flood control projects worth P250 million each, stressing that inspections by authorities reportedly found no irregularities in their implementation.
