Описание: Top 10 Massive Developments in Dasu Hydropower Project That Will Transform Pakistan! 🇵🇰

YouTube Description:

Imagine a dam taller than an 80-story building, a highway floating 400 meters above a valley floor, and a massive powerhouse hidden deep inside a mountain. This isn't science fiction — this is the Dasu Hydropower Project, Pakistan's largest, most expensive, and most complex energy project in history!

🏗️ What This Video Covers:

In this video, we take a deep dive into every jaw-dropping detail of the Dasu Hydropower Project — currently under construction on the mighty Indus River in Upper Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

📌 Key Highlights:

⚡ The Dam: A 242-meter tall Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Gravity Dam — one of the tallest RCC dams in the world. Over 5 million cubic meters of RCC will be placed, with peak placement rates reaching 35,000 cubic meters per day, working 24/7 non-stop.

⚡ Power Generation: Total capacity of 4,320 MW in two phases. Phase 1 alone will generate 2,160 MW using 6 Francis turbine units (360 MW each). First unit expected to produce electricity by 2028, with all units operational by 2029.

⚡ River Diversion: The Indus River — with an average flow exceeding 2,000 m³/s and flood flows over 7,000 m³/s — was successfully diverted through two massive tunnels (12-14m diameter, over 1 km long) — an engineering marvel in itself!

⚡ Dam Foundation: 100% excavation of the main dam foundation was completed in January 2026, removing approximately 1.8 million cubic meters of soil, sediment, and weathered rock to reach solid bedrock.

⚡ Relocated Karakoram Highway (RKKH-1): Over 20 km of the existing KKH will be submerged when the reservoir fills. A brand-new 20.4 km highway is being built to CPEC standards, featuring 7 tunnels and 3 major bridges. 92% complete as of January 2026, expected to open by June 2026.

⚡ The 400-Meter High Bridge: The Barseen Nullah Bridge crosses a deep gorge at approximately 400 meters above the valley floor (~130 stories high!) — one of Pakistan's highest bridges ever, engineered to withstand major earthquakes and extreme winds in one of the world's most seismically active zones.

⚡ Underground Powerhouse: A giant cavern carved deep inside a mountain will house 6 massive Francis turbines, along with a separate transformer hall — one of civil engineering's most complex undertakings.

⚡ 765kV Transmission Line: A 255 km double-circuit 765kV transmission line from Dasu to near Islamabad — one of Pakistan's highest voltage levels ever, ensuring reliable power delivery to the national grid.

⚡ Dedicated Construction Power: A small 4.8 MW Siglo Power Station was purpose-built to provide uninterrupted power supply during RCC placement, preventing cold joints that could compromise the dam's structural integrity.

⚡ Budget: Phase 1 revised cost approved at approximately PKR 1.74 trillion (~$6.2 billion). The World Bank approved an additional $1 billion in June 2024, bringing total World Bank support to approximately $2.5–3 billion.

⚡ Economic Impact: Phase 1 alone will produce over 12,000 GWh annually at just 3-4 PKR per unit — among Pakistan's cheapest energy sources. It will save over $1 billion in foreign exchange annually by reducing reliance on expensive imported fuels. Both phases combined will generate over 21 billion units of zero-carbon electricity.

📊 Construction Scale: Over 20 different work sites are active simultaneously, with 8,000 to 10,000 workers at peak — including Chinese technical staff, Pakistani engineers, and local laborers.

🏢 Key Organizations:

WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority) — Project Owner

World Bank — Primary Financial Partner

CGGC (China Gezhouba Group Company) — Main Construction Contractor

📍 Location: Near Dasu Town, Upper Kohistan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

🌊 When complete, the Indus River will back up 74 km behind the dam, creating a stunning turquoise reservoir.
