Our Double Knockout Roses Are Truly Amazing This Year | Backyard Gardening Vlog 2020 Ep12 June 10 P1

Описание: This is the 12th episode in the new video series of gardening vlogs for 2020 by young gardener Aiman. As mentioned in the 1st video, Aiman will be providing updates on his mom's backyard garden & the progress report on the continuous re-transformation of that garden by his dad either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

This is the second week of June (the 10th). The original clips were too long therefore we're splitting this week's vlog into 2 parts. This is Part 1. We're starting this video with scenery from my mom's pink double knockout roses. Earlier in the spring my dad had trimmed the roses slanted so that the roses bloom from the ground up, and it looks like his vision came true. The pink double knock out roses in our the courtyard behind the house next to the garage are the pretties we have ever seen.

We haven't made a lot of improvements to the main gardening area because of a death of a dear friend a few days back. But significant improvement to the entrance of the garden has been made. My dad had started the retaining wall which double up as fencing system on the back end of the garden.

The grapes vines on the arbor has been trimmed nicely. The trellises have been installed and they look really nice. We have a separate video on how to build these custom made trellis. The irrigation system will re-done in the next couple of weeks.

Cucumbers, yard long beans and other climbing vegetables have grown nicely. Kale, cabbage, broccoli and other early summer plants are also bigger and greener than last week. The pepper and chili plants have started to flower and budding.

The tomatoes are also big, and with the upcoming temperatures in the 70s, these plants will grow really fast. Same thing with the eggplants. Even though we have started planting some of the tropical veggies and herbs such as corriander, chinese celery & asian spinach, most of the other tropical veggies such as Vietnamese coriander (daun kesum), kangkung or Chinese water spinach haven't been planted yet. We have started to seed in the ground for veggies such as Okra, peria, luffa and others.

Because of our gardening is organic, we didn't use pesticides, so as you will see in the videos, some of the insects, pests and bugs have started to eat the young and tender leaves of the bok choy. Romaine and iceberg lettuces are ready to be harvested next week.

Because we live near a wooded area and river stream, not only deer are a huge problems, some of the plants have been rummaged and eaten by wild animals such as squirrels, wood chucks, beavers, ground hogs, gofers and others. These animals prefer plants such as soybean, Jerusalem artichoke, corn, and sunflowers. In the past we have installed fencing around the plants to ward of these animals. Our cats also like to poop around the fruit trees which we used to plant edamame.

We've also relocate our cat house to the side of the house along the picket fence rather than next to the entrance of our back door for various reasons but the cats seem to like the new location of their summer home.

In Part 2 we will talk about the Asian Pear, the compost and we will take you to the front of the house to showcase the red double knock out roses as well as the Japanese maple there.
