This version of our water rocket car has a lightened and lengthened chassis, new nosecone and lighter electronics bay, new rear fins cantered at 45degrees and no rubber on the rear wheels.
The test was to see if minimizing the friction on the rear allowed the rear fins to straighten the car during the thrust phase, to basically behave like a airborne rocket.
As it turned out under thrust the car was straight but any steering input via the r/c steering created extreme oversteer resulting in 180 degree spins and massive fishtailing. After watching the videos its pretty obvious this would happen, but we will learn from this design failure and this is part of the fun of experimenting with water rocket cars.
We will restore the rubber to the rear wheels and try again to see if the rear fins will be able to generate enough force to straighten the car under thrust while still maintaining enough rear grip not to oversteer ... stay tuned
