Gilad Erdan blasted UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini for denying any knowledge of Hamas tunnel. ‘It does not mean that you do not know, but rather that you do not want to know. We provided evidence and appealed for a comprehensive inspection, but you ignored it. Not only you rejected that, but you chose to bury your head in the sand’. Lazzarini had earlier said that it was unaware of the tunnel's existence as the staff vacated the premises since October 12. Commissioner-General Lazzarini further said, “UNRWA does not have military and security experience nor the ability to conduct military inspections”. Lazzarini also said that the Israeli authorities did not officially inform UNRWA about the alleged tunnel.
