Mackenzie Shirilla is posting selfies from prison, triggering widespread backlash across social media as viewers accuse her of preparing for an influencer career after her release. The controversial posts left millions wondering how a convicted prisoner serving 15 years to life could take and share glammed-up photos online.
Ex-inmate Kat Crowder explained that Ohio prisoners use issued GTL tablets to capture photos, record messages, and transmit them directly to approved contacts. Mackenzie allegedly sends these selfies to her mother, who subsequently uploads them onto her public social media profiles. However, serious outrage centers on her behavior behind bars. Crowder revealed that while Netflix depicted her as quiet and remorseful, Mackenzie actually acted like a popularity-seeking "mean girl," focusing on makeup, prison cliques, and relationship drama. Disciplinary records also show multiple citations for contraband, altered items, insubordination, and illicit virtual interactions. Critics and victim families fear she enjoys the infamy and plans to leverage her sentence into a full-time online presence once paroled.
