This 3D/2D animation of a delivery depicts the various methods that physicians use to assist the mother in delivery and prevent shoulder dystocia. The infant is shown in the womb above the mother's vertebrae and behind the pubic symphysis. With contractions, maternal pushing and vacuum suction the infant progresses outward until the shoulder is caught against the pubic bones. To correct the problem McRoberts position (shown in a wide view of the patient and physicians) and rotational maneuver (shown in an anterior view) are performed. The shoulder is free of the pubic bones and the infant is delivered.
