The African bitter leaf plant (Vernonia amygdalina) is a culturally important vegetable for many African countries. In Cameroon, it is also known as Ndole bitterleaves. It is used to prepare a delicious Cameroonian food known as Ndole. Bitterleaves have both medicinal and nutritional value. They are super easy to grow even outside of Africa. They are very resilient and do well in cold climates. The benefits of Bitterleaves are many. Bitterleaves have culinary as well as medicinal uses.
If space is an issue for you, you can definitely cultivate this veggies in a container.

Bitterleaves ( Vernonia Amygdalina)
It requires full sunlight and prefers humid environment. It grows on all soil types but prefers humus-rich soils. Propagation of V. amygdalina is possible by seed collected from dry flower heads. Stem cuttings are used as they grow faster. Cuttings are selected on leaf size, bitterness and growth characteristics. It is planted erect or slanted at 45 degrees to obtain more side shoots. Seeds can be sown on nursery beds prepared from humus-rich soil, shaded from excessive heat or sunlight and watered regularly to germinate. Seedlings can be transplanted 4-6 weeks after emergence.
