A new garbage collection contract is now in effect for some residents in San Joaquin County, offering potential savings on monthly trash bills. County leaders approved the deal last year after putting trash service out to bid for the first time in more than 40 years. The county awarded the contract to USA Waste of California for unincorporated areas near Stockton. Officials say residents could see savings of up to 45 percent, or roughly three dollars per month, with additional discounts available, including for seniors.
