Описание: Autoimmune Diseases - What you need to know about deficiencies and prevention!

SUMMARY:
Autoimmune disorders affect approximately 3% of the US population, and that number is on the rise. Autoimmune disorders are caused by your body's immune system attacking itself instead of protecting it. There are over 100 identified types of autoimmune disorders, the most common being Multiple sclerosis, Myasthenia gravis, rheumatoid arthritis, and type I diabetes.

The causes can vary, and a lot is still unknown. But some are caused by certain medications, specifically blood pressure meds, statins and antibiotics. Family history of autoimmune diseases, smoking, and diagnosis of an autoimmune disease puts you at greater risk for developing another.

Some general signs and symptoms to look for include fatigue, fever, general ill feeling, joint pain, and rash.

Treatment will depend on the symptoms experienced, but in general, the goal of treatment is to attempt to control the autoimmune process while maintaining the body's ability to fight off the disease. Treatment will also include reducing any symptoms you're experiencing. Unfortunately, autoimmune diseases are not curable yet.

You can prevent an autoimmune disease by exercising consistently and eating a healthy diet. This also means limiting processed foods to give your body as many whole, nutrient rich foods as possible. The more processed a food is, the more preservatives you're introducing to your body. While in most cases this is fine, there is preliminary research suggesting a connection between food additives and weakening intestinal walls, which is our main defense mechanism against bacteria and toxins. So when the permeability of the intestinal wall is weakened, more intruders enter our bloodstream. And this can lead to development of autoimmune diseases. You can take supplements to support your immune system, and consume foods high in vitamins and minerals and antioxidants to keep your immune system functioning efficiently and effectively.

A recent study that was released in 2022 that found a direct correlation between vitamin D supplements and prevention of autoimmune diseases. This study revealed that people who regularly took vitamin D supplements were significantly less likely to develop an autoimmune disease than others who took a placebo pill. So, if you don't already take a vitamin D supplement, it is definitely a good idea to speak to your doctor about its benefits and whether it is right for you. Other immune boosting supplements besides just vitamin D include Zinc, vitamin C and elderberry.
