Fluent Aphasia | Language Activation

Описание: THE PURPOSE OF THIS ACTIVITY is to activate the category of "t", "tr", "thr", and the subject-verb-object construct. The difficult part of this task for Byron is activating the correct category to produce a specific word within the category indicated by with written word. After producing the word, he must access auditory feedback to determine if his production was accurate or in error. Speed and fatigue are significant factors that contribute to accuracy.

The nature of fluent aphasia is such that inaccurate productions are often not perceived. To help him retrieve words accurately and to hear/process his productions, I coach him through a reading aloud lesson. When speech production is done in a structured format, like in this reading task, word activation and perception of accuracy is supported because the rate of processing and volume of items to process are reduced. This is in contrast to unstructured, conversational speech where word activation often becomes cross containment with other word and sound categories. The resulting speech productions in aphasia may be off target based upon the errored activation. The hallmark of fluent aphasia is a reduced ability to hear and process spoken errors.
