i24NEWS DESK | Bianca Zanini breaks down Israel’s electoral system, as the country heads to elections for the second time on September 17th!  


Story (related): A new i24NEWS/Yisrael Hayom poll released on Thursday has found that the majority of Israelis believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is most qualified to run the country with less than two weeks until the general election.
The survey revealed that 40% of Israelis respondents believe that Netanyahu is the best choice to stay premier, followed by Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz at 23%.
The next highest recipient at 19% was "other" or undecided.
Meanwhile, Israeli broadcaster Channel 13 reported Thursday evening that if elections were held today, both Netanyahu and Gantz would receive 32 Knesset seats each. 


The secular right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party, headed by Avigdor Liberman, would receive 11 mandates in the 22nd Israeli Parliament while the Joint List and Yamina (To The Right) would each receive 10 seats, respectively.
That was followed by ultra-Orthodox parties United Torah Judaism, eight, and Shas at six seats.
The remaining parties rounding out the survey predicts the left-wing Democratic Union taking home six seats and the once formidable Labor party only receiving five mandates.
If the numbers are correct, the data ultimately reveals that Netanyahu will not be able to form a right-wing government without Liberman.
Without his onetime ally turned rival, they primer only has 56 Knesset backers, 5 short of the required 61 seats needed to form a coalition government.
Israel's general election, the second vote scheduled this year after Netanyahu failed to form a coalition government over the summer, will be held on September 17.
