Syndrome Series: McCune-Albright Syndrome

Описание: The latest installment of my syndrome series! This collection of videos highlights some of the major syndromes that affect the head and neck.

McCune-Albright syndrome consists of the triad of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, café au lait spots, and endocrinopathy. Fibrous dysplasia often affects the craniofacial bones, so it is imperative that oral health care providers are comfortable with identifying this rare syndrome. Café au lait spots are often present at birth and have a more jagged appearance similar to the coast of Maine. Endocrinopathy usually presents as precocious (early) puberty, though many endocrinopathies may be observed in the context of McCune-Albright syndrome.

I also discuss the case that I have seen in my practice of a young woman with fibrous dysplasia of her maxilla, mandible, femur and humerus. She also presented with intraoral and extraoral pigmentation. She was diagnosed with a cyst in her ovary at 7 years old which initiated a precocious puberty.
