SOMEDAY statement 24.11.25
Someday started as an idea at the start of November. It was more or less completed by the time there was a sudden change of plans to introduce a short - Young Hearts (8 Nov). Later, it developed into a trilogy of shorts. A tragic trilogy. The following couple of weeks there were a further 2 similar shorts: Love Hurts (15 Nov) & Let It Be Me (22 Nov).
In the meantime, a few extra images were added to Someday video eg Poisonous Love. I was following Poisonous Love at the same time as working on the trilogy. As the drama entered its final episodes, the mood became more serious.
Scenes in Poisonous Love mirrored the ones in the Pluto drama. The thought came to mind that these confrontations & hindrances, represented by parents esp fathers of daughters, are ongoing. From age to age, from generation to generation, from culture to culture: the same struggles of LGBT sons & daughters. How they are not allowed to love... who they want.
How strange these objections are when they are looked at more closely. These ideas of what is "normal". There is nothing more normal than love. In all its forms. Family, friends, compassion for others....& lovers. The only difference is where an emotional connection sits on the spectrum of "love".
The lyrics of the song Someday Soon by Judy Collins realistically sum up the parental/dad objection to their daughter in love... with a woman. As shown in the dramas Pluto and Poisonous Love.
Though it isn't satisfactory where parents are concerned, the song Someday Soon has a hopeful but defiant ending. The daughter, despite parental objections, especially from "pa", is determined to go and live her life fully with the one she chose to be with.
In the Pluto drama the dad reluctantly accepts his daughter's love relationship. Which can be true in real life.
In Poisonous Love it concludes positively with family reconciliation. Brought on by the suffering of their daughter when she thought her lover had died. The daughter's happiness, and the right to choose who she loves, comes first & foremost. As it should be. That's parental love.
However, this is not often the case. Many parents in reality never reconcile with their children's love choices. Unfortunately. So, the song Someday Soon may well be the most realistic outcome, should the daughter/son choose the love of their life... over family.
Not only the music, but particularly lyrics, that should attempt to reflect the video's theme, but also selected images. Wherever possible, images follow the theme and/or lyrics as authentically as possible. It is a format which I strive to follow.
In this video the images are accurate of Colorado, California freeway, the "old blue northern" wind. The gender of the rodeo rider in the song is changed to female, hence, female rodeo riders. Scenes of confrontations with parents, esp dads, over daughter's LGBT relationship are from dramas that depict such situations. The female rider on the motorbike, replaces the rodeo rider on the broncing horse. It reflects the lyrics: "going with him, someday soon".
