Hello!
In this advanced tutorial, I gloss over the idea of gain and how it correlates with the three levels of noise that you can come across at home or in a booth/studio. In Short: The room has ambient noise, the mic has self-noise, and the pre-amps of a control board/interface have self-noise as well.
Use a lower amount of gain on the mic can minimize potential noise being caught in the recording.
