Описание: A talk presented by Karl Burkart of the Nature Data Lab at the London School of Economics, which explores new approaches to incorporating the value of natural assets into the balance sheets of countries, helping low-income nations to reduce their heavy debt burden by protecting and conserving natural resources. The first 2.5 minutes introduces the Nature Data Lab and defines 'nature data'. The next 4.5 minutes explores the valuable contributions that healthy ecosystems and biodiversity provide to the global economy. The next 3 minutes discusses proposed alternatives to the GDP metric and how the all important debt-to-GDP determines why the debt financing for some low income countries is so high. The following 3.5 minutes introduces the concept of ReGDP, proposed by the economist Ralph Chami, which offers a means to inject the value of a country's natural assets into its macroeconomic standing. The final 4 minutes presents the Global Safety Net v3 (GSN3), a dynamic web application that tracks the extent of Areas of Importance for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (AIBES), data which can be applied to rank countries on their ecological performance.
