I love my 16 mm scale Mamod live steamer. It is a great little locomotive for the price and is very dependable. Live steam engines aren’t made by robots and do not contain cheap electronics. Therefore they often have quirks.
My loco first needed the glands packed (the subject of another video), which made the running quality far better, then I extended the throttle handle to make adjusting speed easier. That was so simple and obvious I did’t really consider it a modification. This new fuel line stopped me from saying some colourful language.
I reckon that I added this new line in much less time than it would have taken to take so much of the loco apart to get the plugged gas jet out. I would have had to drift out the wheel axels and everything! Given each of these wonderful locos are hand made, other Mamods may not have this problem. The gas jet simply could not get back far enough to drop free for cleaning - by about 1 mm! What a pain. But at least not the job will take minutes. Easy!
If you’re local and into live steam drop me a line.
The train is running on 32 mm gauge track. Many people call this SM32.
Happy Steaming!
Terry
