Despite deportation order, migrant influencer likely stuck in U.S.

Описание: Leonel Moreno, a 27-year-old from Venezuela, is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Moreno became well-known on TikTok for showing off American money and encouraging other migrants to take over empty houses and live there without paying rent. He claimed he was making a lot of money from begging and using food stamps to support his American-born child.

Moreno crossed into the U.S. illegally in April 2022 and quickly went viral online. In his videos, he bragged about his lifestyle, including his government benefits and daily earnings. His videos advised other migrants to use "squatter's rights" to take over vacant properties, renovate them, and make a profit.

On September 9, an immigration judge in Ohio ordered Moreno to be deported. But there's a big problem: His deportation is on hold because of a diplomatic clash between the U.S. and Venezuela. Since February 2023, Venezuela's government has refused to accept deported migrants from the U.S., leading to the cancellation of regular deportation flights. Additionally, there have been no flights between the U.S. and Venezuela since 2019 due to violence and unrest in Venezuela.
