Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the Hopkins, four to seven and four pole adapter, on a 2018 Chevy Express van. Now, this is gonna allow you to take your four pole adapter, and actually hook up to a seven way trailer. You still maintain your four-pole, so this really opens up the options for anyone that tows two different styles of trailer, or having the ability to hook up to a bunch of different trailers. Now, this is also nice if you eventually wanna add a brake controller, as you can do that. Your four-pole is going to give you your running lights, your turn signals, and your brake lights. Now, you're also gonna get that with your seven pole but you have the availability to eventually add the wiring to run a brake controller, you can also put a reverse lockout if you're towing a boat, or you can have a 12 Volt power supply, and that's gonna be useful on some of your trailers with your jacks or whatever may be powered.
Now, if you are looking to add a brake controller, we have plenty of options here at etrailer, and there's plenty of videos online to show you how to get that done. And also if you wanna run a charge line, you can also get that here as well, and see how it's done. If you already have a four-pole wire harness run on your vehicle, this install is extremely easy. And also if you're planning on adding a brake controller, it can add a little bit to it but overall, this adapter by itself is pretty plug-and-play. To begin our installation, first off, you're gonna wanna make sure that you have a four-pole installed as you're gonna need that to hook up to your adapter.
So if you don't have that on your vehicle already, you're gonna wanna go ahead and get one of those and get that installed. And if you need help with that, use our Vehicle Fit Guide. You can find the right trailer wiring and also a video on how to install it. So once you have your four-pole set up, your next gonna wanna find where you want to actually mount this. And so, you can get brackets that attach to your hitch.
This one has this bracket here included, and I'm actually gonna mount it to the bumper. So, finding the right spot, that leaves me enough room for my safety chains. I'm gonna go ahead and just make some marks here, and I'm gonna drill those out. And that way, we can get this attached. I'll be using self-tapping screws, to attach the bracket.
But I find it a lot easier to make some pilot holes with a smaller bit, so I'm gonna go ahead and do that first. So now, I've taken a self-tapping screw, and I'm going to drill this into the bumper. Now, if you don't have self-tapping screws, we actually have those here at etrailer. And this is going to give you a nice bite into the bumper. Now, before actually mounting this up, I'd like, show you, kinda the breakdown of the wiring. So you have your four-pole, which is gonna attach to your other four-pole, pretty simple there. Now you do have other wires. We will be installing the white wire as that's gonna be our ground. So this is gonna mount up to the chassis, our black wire is gonna be if you want to run 12 Volt power to it. So, and that way if you need to charge up any of your seven pole accessories, you can do that. And this customer has opted to just have these seven-pole and that way they can just use the lighting functions on a seven-pole trailer. You also have a blue and purple. Now these two are going to be for when you're towing a boat, your reverse lockout, and your other function is going to be for a brake controller. Get this in place, we're gonna take our hardware included in the kit, and it's got some long flat head screws. We'll just feed those in. We have this nice slit here where you can feed your wires through. Feed these through the bracket, and then follow it up with the nuts. And the great part about this, harness here, is the fact that you still maintain your four-pole. So with that, you really won't need to be using this one except this connection here. So you can go ahead, connect those. And I'm gonna just run some zip ties between the two to keep those perfectly contacted, and not falling apart. You can also use electrical tape if you wanna bundle it up that way. So now that we have this attached we can clip those off, we can move on to our next wires. Now we're
