Govt warns it will strip funding from independent schools if they refuse to open after school holid

Описание: The Education Minister Dan Tehan has warned independent schools must reopen for term two or risk having their funding cut by the federal government.

The government's Medical Expert panel has assured the community it is safe to send their children to school, but many parents have chosen to keep their children at home.

Earlier this week the Association of Independent Schools wrote to their members saying they back the government's move to keep schools open,

Schools across the country have closed as families celebrate the Easter holidays.

Mr Tehan told Sky News it's important working parents have the option to send their children to school.

"We want to ensure all parents have that choice, that if they are working we don't want them to make that decision between going to work or staying at home and education their children."

"That's been our consistent position...we want all schools to be making sure they are open for those students."

He said funding for the independent school sector is contingent upon them remaining open for at least term two.
