Which type of foam do you think will work best?
I'm setting up some DIY foam sanding pads using foam, silicon carbide sandpaper, and spray-on 3M 90 Hi-Strength adhesive and setting out to see which holds up the best. The job is to sand down bike parts for a quick coat of paint.
We've got a dense packing foam, a low density egg crate foam, and a medium density mattress foam.
I don't mention it in the video but that was about 10~15 minutes of wet-dry sanding; enough to fully rough up the fork and handle bar assembly of the bike.
My other application for these is 3D prints. They'll likely feature when I get around to attempting a sanding-smoothed 3D print of some sort. So far it hasn't proven necessary for any of the work I've done.
Note that I did switch out the initial pads for three identical foam pads sporting 600 grit before I shot the actual sanding. From running those on the main bike fraim it turned out that 1500 grit wasn't quite aggressive enough for the application... and I've got a bit more sanding in my future ;).
