In his televised opening remarks at the summit, Mr. Modi said the conflict should come to an end through dialogue and diplomacy.

“We support a peaceful solution to the conflict,” the Prime Minister said.

Mr. Putin is on his first in four years at a time when New Delhi is engaged in talks with the U.S. for a trade deal to cut punitive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on its goods over India’s Russian oil purchases.

Russian President Vladimir Putin told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he was grateful for the attention India was paying to peace efforts on Ukraine.
