Humanoid Robot Plays Ancient Instrument at China PON Opening Ceremony

Footage shows humanoid robots playing a replica of the ancient bronze percussion instrument known as Goudiao, dating back 2,000 years. Dazzling 3D projections. Iconic landmarks such as Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour, the Ruins of St. Paul's in Macau, and Guangzhou's Canton Tower can also be seen projected alongside performers who are dancing and practicing martial arts.

This ceremony signified an unprecedented milestone in Chinese sports, as it marked the first National Games co-hosted by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony, alongside International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry and Honorary President for Life Thomas Bach.

The 75-minute performances, categorised into three parts, seamlessly blended the heritage and modern spirit of the Greater Bay Area through music, dance, and digital technology.

Running from November 9 to 21, the Games feature 34 sports with 419 events in the competitive programme, alongside 23 sports with 166 events in the mass participation programme.
