Описание: 2013 Karl Terzaghi Lecture: Improving Dam Safety with Lessons Learned from Case Histories of Dam Failures and Unacceptable Dam Performance, presented by Alfred J. "Skip" Hendron, Jr., Ph.D., NAE, M.ASCE, Professor Emeritus, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Hendron is Professor Emeritus of civil engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his career, he has amassed significant experience in the design and evaluation of major dams for hydroelectric and reclamation projections He serves as a consultant on numerous worldwide projects, contributing his knowledge of geotechnical and earthquake engineering to the design of high embankment concrete dams. He is a dam safety consultant to the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). In recent years, this has included the Saluda Dam Remediation Project and Taum Sauk Upper Reservoir Rebuild.

He has also served on consulting boards for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the design and construction of New Wadell Dam, the raising of Theodore Roosevelt Dam, and the evaluation of the Hoover and Hungry Horse Arch Dams for earthquake motions.

Recent foreign consulting projects include the 184-m-high Katse Arch Dam in Lesotho and 205-m-high Bakun Rockfill Dam in Malaysia. Awards and recognitions include: Election to the National Academy of Engineering (1983); ASCE Huber Research Prize (1974); 6th Nabor Carrillo Lecturer, Mexican Society of Soil Mechanics (1982); 2nd Casagrande Lecture, Boston Society of Civil Engineers (1985); Martin S. Kapp Lecturer, NY City Met. Section, ASCE (1991).

Dr. Hendron was cited in the January 2011 issue of "International Water Power & Dam Construction" as one of 20 engineers in the world that "have made the biggest difference to dam engineering over the last 10 years."
