When it comes to developing control logics or complete vehicle subsystems, MATLAB/Simulink is a popular choice.
However, to run these models effectively, a reliable vehicle model is crucial. It ensures that valuable resources are not wasted on elements that aren't the primary focus of your team. That's where the quality of the VI-CarRealTime model shines. It's readily available within the MATLAB/Simulink environment as an s-function, ready to provide you with a top-notch vehicle dynamics model.
The VI-CarRealTime car data is sourced from a file passed to the s-function as a parameter. This file is a VI-CarRealTime "send_svm" solver model, encompassing both vehicle data and event definitions. To obtain it, simply open your vehicle in the VI-CarRealTime interface, define the event required for execution with the Simulink model to complete your simulation, and run it interactively if you need reference results from the standalone VI-CarRealTime model. Otherwise, simply retrieve the files, as they are most meaningful when connected to the Simulink portion.
Now, transition to the Simulink interface and verify if the VI-grade libraries are loaded. If not, you can easily add them to your MATLAB search path, either manually or by using the utility script "addpath_vicrt" generated by the VI-CarRealTime installer. Just specify your software version.
You can proceed to load the VI-CarRealTime solver interface s-function block into your model. By default, the solver model file is defined through the variable "vicrt_inputfile." Create this variable in your workspace to make the model data available for the s-function.
Next, select the necessary input and output connections to properly link the vehicle model with the Simulink system. If the Simulink model replaces one of the internal VI-CarRealTime subsystems, remember to deactivate it by providing a zero to the corresponding input channel.
Run your analysis, and examine the results of your coupled simulation.
Now, effortlessly incorporate a VI-CarRealTime model into any of your Simulink projects requiring interaction with a vehicle dynamic model for accurate simulations.
