Shine On Harvest Moon (Nora Bayes, Jack Norworth) - Played By Bob Miller And His Orchestra
Vocal chorus by Bob Miller
Recorded by The Columbia Graphophone Company, Memphis, Tennessee, 14 December 1927
This Issue: Australian Columbia Record No. 01025 (Labelled as "Denza Dance Band")
Matrix: W145377-3
Those eagle-eyed viewers may have already noticed the incorrect composer attribution of "Von Tilzer, Sterling" on the label of the record. This is incorrect, but these composers DID in fact write "When the harvest moon is shining"!
I find it slightly fascinating that an orchestra recorded in Memphis, Tennessee finds its way to an Australian issued Columbia under a pseudonym!
Bob Miller was an American songwriter, performer and bandleader active in the Memphis music scene in the 1920s and 1930s. Miller commenced his career as a pianist but in the early 1920s led a band that performed on the Mississippi riverboat "Idlewild". In later times, he had his own music publishing company and also worked in New York as an arranger. Sadly, it seems this one side was his only recorded dance band tune, the other ("Everything is just the same") being rejected!
Apologies for some distortion heard on this one as a result of those infernal heavy pickups!
Recorded and processed from an original vintage 78 record by myself.
