“I didn’t set out to just blow people back in their chairs”, Ryan Murphy told us exclusively on the set of American Horror Story on the Fox lot. That may well be, but his anthology series certainly has set a new benchmark for horror on the small screen. For its fifth iteration, Murphy (and co-creator Brad Falchuck) have set the action in a grand old hotel where nothing is what it seems, to say the least! AHS Hotel sees the return of many regular Murphy players, including Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, Chloë Sevigny, Matt Bomer and Kathy Bates and in addition features some notable newcomers, including Lady Gaga. In our exclusive interview Murphy tells the HFPA’s Katherine Tulich how Lady G pushed for more violence and nudity and pushed him to his artistic limits.
