Rocky Mountain Railroad highlights the dangerous work of an elite crew on the Canadian Pacific Railway, battling massive avalanches and monster icicles to keep a crucial supply line running through the mountains.
In this episode, there are high-stakes in the world of railroads and immense pressure to deliver valuable cargo, including a $3 million coal shipment crucial to British Columbia's $4 billion economy. It's imperative this train competes its journey to deliver coal to the 77,000 tonne cargo ship. With 152 cars in tow on this train, making it 2.5 kilometres in length, a daunting part of this journey - even for experienced crews - is over southeastern British Columbia's Stony Creek Bridge with its 90 meter drop. The resilient crew must navigate treacherous terrain and unexpected breakdowns in minus 35-degree weather. The skilled workers also demonstrate how controlled explosions can compress the steel, making it harder and more durable, ensuring the materials can withstand the 40+ trains that pass over the tracks every day.
