Hey there, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. Today, we are taking a look at the INNO roof rack system in the wider crossbar configuration here on the 2023 GMC Terrain. If you wanna carry around fun accessories like you need to carry some kayaks or you wanna roof-mounted bike rack or even a rooftop tent, what you first need is a roof rack system. There's a bunch of different options for your Terrain, especially the one that has a raised rail configuration, like what we have here. If you're not sure what type of rails you have, a raised rail is one where you can fit your hand underneath. If it just fits flush to your roof and there's no space under there, that's gonna be a flush rail.
Now, this roof rack in particular is one of my favorite options for the raised rail Terrain because it is available as either a shorter or wider bar, and that's going to be a option for you if you wanna carry around more things and make things a bit more accessible. Plus, the looks of an INNO roof rack are pretty sleek, but that's a personal opinion of mine. But for actual measurements, this is gonna be a 51 inch long crossbar. So when you get overhang, you're gonna get about three inches of overhang, and that is gonna be measured from the end of the tower to right before your end cap. That's usable space where you can clamp things around the bar or load things onto it.
If you need to have something that's easier to reach or if you want to maximize your space, getting the wider bar is gonna be the way to go. Plus, in all honesty, it doesn't sit that wide. If you want an even sleeker look though, then you can take a look at the 48 inch version from INNO. What's gonna be unique to the INNO bar is it has your sleek end caps on the end. On our Terrain here, it fits almost perfectly with the accents of our vehicle.
Plus, you have your aerodynamic crossbar, making for less wind drag and wind noise when you're on the road. If you wanted to load things up onto your roof rack through those end channels or those T-channels, that's gonna be an option as well if you don't want anything clamping around. So for clamps, you do have to think about your roof clearances. So there's two measurements there. One is gonna be from the roof to the bottom of the bar.
Here in the valley area, we have about three inches of space, which is pretty decent. Most types of clamps will be able to fit around here. Now, your U-bolts and wing nuts, just have a double-check to make sure they don't scratch up your roof. But then the next measurement is gonna be your height added to your roof. So from the roof to the top of the bar, I have it at a past four inches, so almost 4 1/4 inches. That's gonna be where your cargo sits. So imagine, if you're carrying around skis with extra tall bindings, you wanna make sure you have clearance there so the bindings don't hit your roof. And if you find that you give 'em a little bit short, you can then get those extra accessories that give you that extra height. If I was to take the Terrain out for a kayaking adventure, this is how I would put the crossbars up, and that's because the crossbar spread we have here works great for a bunch of different types of accessories. So crossbar spread is a distance apart of your bars. I usually measure front to front end, and we have it at 31 inches. But because you have a raised rail, this can fit along that raised rail to whichever spot is more convenient for you. So it could take those measurements, you could get up to about 36 inches, or three feet, if needed for those extra long items. The way this secures to the rails is you have the bars, but then you also have the towers, or INNO calls them the Through Feet, and these are gonna be your base system that gives you that support and the weight capacity. I like how INNO does it because not only do they have included locks and keys, compared to other brands where you have to purchase those separately, but they al
