(TA2.02) Partnership for Sustainable Development: The Global South Story

Big Data for Development (BD4D) Research Network, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS 21), Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD), and Tanzania Data Lab (dLab) are all involved in data partnerships at different levels and are collaborating in different data partnership initiatives. -Big Data for Development (BD4D) Research Network is a Southern-led partnership with the objective of developing policy relevant research on big data for development that is conceptualized and implemented by Southern organizations. The network acts to develop capacity amongst researchers from the Global South, focusing on activities linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to those that address gender-related issues. -PEPFAR and MCC’s Data Collaboratives program are working with partner countries to implement sound policies to foster greater openness and space for collaboration – part of a systems approach to identify aspects of data ecosystems to advance development through partnership with National Statistical Offices, local and international partners. -Paris 21 Advanced Data Planning Tool (ADAPT) is used by National Statistical Offices to identify existing data gaps in a country’s statistical system inline with National Development Plans and Sustainable Development Goals, and collaborate with data producers from public and private sector in addressing the identified data gaps through partnership. -Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data in collaboration with National Statistical Offices and local partners are implement National Data Road Map initiatives that seeks to build and strengthen local partnerships on data inline with National Development Plans and Sustainable Development Goals. -Tanzania Data Lab is a local partner working with MCC, Paris 21, GPSDD, and National Bureau of Statistics in Tanzania in implementing different data partnerships initiatives at national level. This round table session will allow for sharing of experiences on data partnerships from around the world, and explore how data partnerships can contribute in addressing existing data gaps through: -National Data Gap Assessments. -National and Sub-National Data Road Map initiatives and Local Data Collaboratives. -Strengthening decentralized data collection and analysis at the sub-national government level. - Quality benchmarking for non-traditional data sources.
