Proportional sampling, along with SRSWR (Simple Random Sampling With Replacement) and SRSWOR (Simple Random Sampling Without Replacement), are essential concepts in survey sampling, particularly in ensuring the representativeness of a sample relative to the population.
1. **Proportional Sampling**:
In proportional sampling, the size of the sample from each stratum or subgroup is proportional to the size of that stratum in the population. This method ensures that each subgroup is represented in the sample in the same proportion as it appears in the population. It is particularly useful when the population is diverse and consists of different groups that must be accurately represented.
**Why we use it**:
To improve the accuracy of estimates by reflecting the structure of the population.
It reduces bias when different subgroups have different characteristics.
Proportional sampling increases the efficiency of the sampling process, leading to more precise estimates.
