You will be required to learn and efficiently operate Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) Fans (i.e. gas powered fans & electric fans )

Firefighters utilize PPV fans for several reasons (i.e. Assisting in ventilating a house on fire to decrease the amount of heat and smoke inside). PPV fans can be found on almost any firefighter apparatus. Firefighter Ladder trucks, Ladder Tenders, and squad units (firefighters who specialize in rescue, extraction, and several other special operations) tend to always have at least one fan on the unit.

Bottom line is if you're a firefighter or are pursing the career of a firefighter, it is vital you understand how to operate a PPV fan

Here are the steps necessary to become proficient when operating a PPV fan:

PPV FAN START UP PROCEDURE:

1️⃣Lift handle (ensure it locks in)
2️⃣Inspect for damages
3️⃣Check fuel level
4️⃣Turn kill switch on
5️⃣Slide fuel lever to the right "ON"
6️⃣Slide choke left to "ON"
7️⃣Pull the pull cord
8️⃣Turn coke "off" and throttle "higher"



PPV FAN SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE:

1️⃣To stop, turn kill switch "OFF"
2️⃣Return to ready state
3️⃣Throttle "low" and choke "on"
4️⃣Fuel off
5️⃣Turn kill switch on
6️⃣Return handle
