Compacting Clay on a Pond Dam

This is the next segment of raising the pond dam, and digging the deepest section of the pond. We have hit the bottom! This is day 3 of what turned out to be 5 days of purely digging and pushing enough clay to raise and compact the clay to the height we desired on the dam. This was the longest and most monotonous of the steps. But it's the most important to make sure that there is enough mass of earth and compacted together solid enough to hold the water. We are keeping to a 3:1 slope on the face of the dam for strength and longevity and to help prevent the dam from sagging or sloughing. Jeff got to drive the sheepsfoot and we placed our first concrete fish structure.
