Nomination in banking is the process of designating a trusted individual to receive the funds or assets in your bank account, fixed deposit, or safe deposit locker in the event of your death. It ensures a seamless and expedited transfer of assets to your loved ones without requiring lengthy legal proceedings.
Key Rules & Features
Multiple Nominations: You can now nominate up to four persons for your deposit accounts, either simultaneously (with specified percentage shares totaling 100%) or successively (where the next nominee becomes operative only if the preceding nominee passes away)
.Lockers & Safe Custody: For safety lockers and articles in safe custody, only successive nominations are permitted.
Not an Ownership Transfer: A nominee is not automatically the legal heir or owner of the funds.
They simply act as a trustee to hold the money on behalf of the legal heirs.
Minor Nominees: You can nominate a minor, but you must appoint another major individual as a guardian to receive the funds on their behalf.
