Today we are exploring the Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio, also known as PAM690. This piece was one of the big debuts for Panerai in 2016, especially considering its blue dial. The watch is big and features the Radiomir 1940 case with straight lugs. In addition, its curved case is more aesthetically sophisticated than the standard cushion case Radiomir. Across the round of the case, this piece measures 47mm. Due to the straight lugs, it wears larger on the wrist and measures 57mm from lug to lug. In terms of thickness, the domed sapphire creates the same distortion effect of a vintage plexiglass and makes this piece 16mm thick.

The strap is natural, minimally treated calf skin. It is the most historically evocative of the Panerai straps. In addition, it features a 70s vintage OP logo on the strap. A tang buckle finishes the watch with a more delicate touch in comparison to the normal pin buckles used. It is interesting to note that this watch utilizes traditional spring bars, making the strap easily interchanged in the comfort of your own home.

The sapphire really stands out as well. The curve of the sapphire and the slant of the conical bezel create a peaked aesthetic. The 690 is the most elemental of the blue dials to debut and combines a high-polished case bezel and sunburst blue dial. The wells of the sandwich dial are very deep and handsome and go well with the rose gold hands.

An exhibition caseback covers a caliber P3000 3 days. It debuted in 2010 and has a 72 hour power reserve. It is manually wound and oscillates at a 3Hz rate. A free spring balance and a full dual anchored balance bridge endow this piece with robust resistance to shock.
